Ok read the rules. What do skirmishers actually do? Firing/blocking wise? My units come in at 10 1/2" wide on their sabots, is this ok (penny based) the 24 elephant steamroller of course might be a bit wider.

There are some situations where the presence of an enemy unit can stop you doing stuff. Skirmishers are usually just pushed out of the way but sometimes you can zip them into places others fail to tread and thus bugger up your opponents options. But skirmishers are not a significant feature of mid 18thC set piece battles, consequently, they're pants.
I'm still ignoring your references to elephants.

either that or they need to be kept in the trunk
I think that trumps the previous elephant pun.

So bad ground holders and road blocks in woods sort of thing., the skirmishers, not the elephants that is.,

I'm thinking 'farting about to very little purpose' would be a more accurate description of skirmish tactics.
And I'm still ignoring references to elephants.

If that's your lifestyle choice I would strongly suggest never visiting the Indian subcontinent or sub Saharan Africa where ignoring a shouted reference to Elephants might well result in you becoming flatter than General E. Pickled after an enemy cavalry charge. On the plus side they could post you home as a large letter.

Can you clarify whether it's whole army/alliance IGOUGO or alternating Brigade activation?

Are the rules ready enough to send out yet? That might help answer a lot of questions.

The latter, which keeps things interesting, and everyone involved.
