Ultramarine blue over a pale blue works well.

Treat them as watercolours, not inks or acrylics.

Ok so why would anybody want to turn water into a different colour, particularly when they should be trying to paint a figure a different colour :moredrink:

Now on one hand I can see that trying to turn white snow yellow can be fun, but water is water right :shock:

I might try a black or dark purple for my medieval arabs. I've already undercoated them in a light brown wash, it might even work just using my regular black wash thinking about it?

Tim, if you’re painting black washed figures with a dark CP, I’d give them a dry brushing with white/off white (edited to add: BEFORE applying the CP, that is) so that they’ve got some highlighting that’ll ‘show’ through the paint.

I saw some great Brunswickers once that had been highlighted with dark grey
