Perry vs Trent - War in Nottingham! Via Australia!

It’s funny how things work out sometimes. Following my comment on the SYW Skirmishing Cavalry thread:

For what I now think of Lardy-sized engagements there’s a lot of scope in having an entire force of skirmish cavalry/infantry harassing a formed regular force. Hmmm..... actually I quite fancy that.
I started having a few thoughts about it. Admittedly I have a couple of rather irregular periods where this is already feasible in painted figures but I did wonder about Napoleonics or SYW. Because I’m mad, obvs.
Then, in my lockdown exploration of the lower cellars, I found a project I actually thought I’d sold back in 2018 - Early French Revolution, scruffy French and precise Austrians, partly painted Trent Miniatures. Rather pretty, even by my daubing standards. And I wouldn’t need to buy many more to finish SP2 forces
so it’s not a new period.
So, here’s my question:
Would Trent Miniatures French Revolution minis work alongside Perry Miniatures or those rather pretty Eureka figures?
I’m guessing not as Trent tend to be on the larger, chunkier side but does anyone have direct experience?

Someone else has done a revolutionary war range, and I am trying to remember who it was.

Brigade Games or Brigade Models - I forget which, but they are different companies. And very nice they are too!
The Eureka models are lovely - their French artillery officer and friend are the models on my blog header-banner:

Unfortunately I don't have any Trent models to compare, but judging by the pics they are getting better and better (the early ones were slightly ropey).

Oh and please, do not share any pictures, it is a period I have had an itch to do for many years and avoided.

Brigade Games are the boys but the range looks rather limited, might be a couple of suitables on the French side, but given the width of the Eureka and Perry’s ranges I think I’d be happy with them if the size was suitable.

From my last visit to their website, I seem to recall that Brigade's pre-1800 output is mainly directed at the "French in Egypt" conflict, which ties in well with the Perry range of that parish (whereas Eureka's French are mainly European-based), and would allow you to produce an SP2 force for, say, the Syrian campaign which would provide precisely the sort of asymmetric warfare you are looking for. Warfare Miniatures (Barry Hilton) has just started producing H&M-era Ottomans, but other than that, I don't think any of the manufacturers you've listed do much in terms of opposition; based on their WSS figures, the WM range would look a bit thin next to Brigade and Perry, IMO.

Unfortunately I’m thinking of Europe rather than Middle-Eastern as Europe is what I’ve currently got and the two periods I could do this in already are ‘arid’ - Texas and Sicily.
Scouring the LAF there’s a figure manufacturer I wasn’t aware of:
https://emperortoadsemporium.co.uk/stor ... emcount=20
Generally the view seems to be Eureka/Perry ok, Trent a little taller and the usual ‘don’t mix in the same unit but ok on the table’. A shame as I wasn’t thinking of a big game, just 60-70 Figures a side but with as much variation in each figure as possible.
I suspect I might need to buy a pack from each and try them out. Which may be ok as I seem to have nearly enough Austrians already and it’s the French I need a lot of variety in.

True dat, technically a little later, 1804 onwards, but might offer some conversion possibilities. Also rather usefully they do Austrians suitable for the 1790’s and they might be very handy for the odd figure, as well as casualty conversions. Hmmmmm........

I think you should buy a lot of figures online today, and then give your (not new) period some serious thought tomorrow.
