A Covenanter question

I'm about to start painting a figure that is meant to represent a general for my Covenanter army (a fourth & final one).
It's mounted, in full armour (it'll be black) with a bare head. Generally, I like to add a figure or two to a General's base for that much vaunted 'diorama effect'.
However, the only figure I actually have is (already painted) a trumpeter on a white horse. The figure is swathed in a cloak & wears a floppy, broad-brimmed hat with plume. Too English Royalist? I know fashions were island-wide but there'll be nothing about the two figures that says, "Scotsmen".
