My day at Battleground
Posted: Sat Nov 25, 2017 5:33 pm
My day began in earnest, "be at mine for 7" was Peelers instruction and I didn't wish to be tardy. I got blocked in by Muthers carers and the roads were a triffle icy, nonetheless I made it by 7:10am. I had yesterday told Peeler I had prepared a porked pie dinner (for tomorrow - I mentioned at the time) and he responded with approval.
But oddly I found no one home or at least awake? No lights on and no motion. Hmm, I thought and texted to see where Peeler was, no answer nor to a phone call either? Returning to sit in my car a while, it was about -2 degrees, I had accidentally set my alarm off with the keys still in. Well, that will get him up I thought! Still no murmour. 7:30 came and I decided to nip to the garage for a brew, still the Peeler residence remained silent. After 8:35 I reasoned he was:
A. Still pissed
B. On holiday
C. Back in hospital
Logistics meant going up to Stockton from Ayton, then back to Muthers and back to York would be a bit of a ball ache and low finanes and little fuel swung the day in favour of going over to Scarborough to salvage some enjoyment. At least if he emerged around 10ish we might still get? It was not to be. Around 11:30 I get a text telling me Battleground is tomorrow, I refer him to the massively publicised website, which everyone North of Canvey Island who is a Wargamer knows about. I didnt even mention Leon's many many reminders. I felt the from 5 miles away.
I'd encourage you all to support poor Peeler and be mature about this total disaster. We must think of Leon also, who has worked so hard on the show, now laying in tatters (in so far as a DbN game goes)
I'm sure we won't mention this again. No need to rake over embers as it were. We can all be grown ups and simply gloss over the whole tragic mess.
As for me, I discovered Scarbrough model shop has a big stock of Perry and Victrix plastics, I nearly bought the new Victrix Romans both advancing and attacking, but I'm skint. I also got my nephew a bargain lego set from the Lego collectors shop, damaged box but still sealed, he won't care about the box. Had a lovely fish n chips then headed home.
Hope you all had a truley magical time at the show, it sounds amazing! Probably one of the best yet, might have been THE best but for an empty table..
Oh well, lets not dwell on it. We'll move on. It's what he would want. No need to mention it again...
