Guy Fawkes head-twister for you...

Guy Fawkes committed suicide. How?
(I did not know this.
I enjoyed having my mind blown and I'm sharing the joy.)

I recall being told at school that he jumped off the scaffold, on his way up to be hanged, and broke his neck, dying instantly.
Always thought it was a Catholic myth, to be honest.

Ruddy heck, I had hoped there'd be rather more mileage in it...
The Baron's spot on.
Guido was earmarked for the full Hanging, Drawing & Quartering but took a gravity-assisted short cut.
Good drills.

Sorry, mate - as I said, I had always assumed it was cobblers.
The other thing we were taught was that Guy Fawkes' Night celebrated the torture and murder of Catholics - in fact, the first bonfires were lit on the evening of the 5th to celebrate the deliverance of the King and his family from an untimely death. At that moment, only Fawkes had been arrested, and the authorities didn't even know who he was as he still hadn't been questioned at that point.
Despite that, my old school used to have the best fireworks display in the Wimbledon area and all the local Prod schools used to turn up to it (it probably helped that a couple of the J's were related to the Cufflink side of the Guinness family and their products were freely available all evening).

Excellent way to celebrate the only man to go to parliament with a working plan.
I always thought it was cobblers.
FFin predict decided to separate rather than celebrate.

Explosive atmosphere, but a tortuous route from the car park.

Accounts by people who attended the executions said that "Guy Fawkes" was the last to be executed and had to be helped up onto the scaffold by the hangman, being weak from imprisonment and torture. With this help he was able get high enough for the rope to break his neck when he fell.
