The Farquhar-Hill. No, not some high ground in Scotland, but a British semi-auto rifle design, not dissimilar to the BAR, that was adopted too late for the trenches, but apparently was used in aircraft.

Given all the post-WW1 Colonial fighting that went on, I'm surprised it isn't better known.

Yes! I had a coffee table book on small arms as a kid which had photos of it with a short history.

Never heard of it. He didn't fire it cyclic, but presumably it could?

I always fancied a Cthulu scenario where the PCs are in Lord Farquhar-Hill's mansion and see who notices it hung on the wall. In SA it would be a Rieder, in Aus and NZ a Charlton.

I'm familiar with it.
In the ranks of early 20th c. self-loaders, it ranks as 'less rubbish than most of its ilk'.
The best of the bunch for practical self loading rifles at the time was the BAR.
But Browning didnt see it that way and kept trying to make it a second-rate LMG.

A disappointingly short submission from Mr Landings, I was expecting at least a doctoral thesis

I always thought the B.A.R very heavy. Have picked a couple up and even unloaded they're quite a weight. I wonder if thats a reason to think of it more as an LMG?
