The Loose Association of Wargamers

I see a few of us have now taken the plunge and should at least by the turn of the century start making efforts at painting these. Does anybody have specific plans about how and what they are going to do?
I've been listening to too many medieval audiobooks of late and have fancied putting together some fictional forces but its early in the thinking days

I'm not sure I'll use the Footsore rules or for that matter what rules at all and how I'll structure my forces but I've no doubt I want to conjure up some fictional names and heraldry I think for robber knights.

I still don't know I might use a few of the historically accurate ones and their heraldry - I think it depends on how pretty their colours are

Where's everyone else who's doing this heading?

I’m probably going to go slightly fictional and at this stage it will be a Robin Hood vs Sheriff of Nottingham type thing.

Chatting to John Savage during my game on Saturday, we are going to work on something Dux Brit related as we both agree it would be a great basis for this kind of thing. That being said, I’ll look at the rules first as I don’t know anything about them

I've tried the samurai rules that I think form the mechanism for Footsore's rules but didn't really like them. I think I'm going with my usual sabot basing and a mix of Fistful of Lead for skirmish-style Robber Baron games and Lion Rampant for bigger games. Though I'd be interested in Dux Brit variant as I suspect the 'campaign' element would work very well.

I'm going to go as historical as I can for the bigger games and I may focus initially on the Angevin Wars, I've got a neat campaign system, Aquitaine, that was intended for the early 100YW but will adapt easily to Richard and John's attempts to keep their French empire together. Naturally that lead to Louis the Lion's invasion of England and into the Baron's war proper. Long live King Louis I of England!

I use sabot bases so I’m able to use different rule sets. I already do Lion Rampant and like the “Fistful of” rules as a multiplayer option but aim to use a set called “Never mind the bannerets” which is a version of “Billhooks” for the earlier Middle Ages. Probably going for a made up rather than historically accurate campaign background but with some proper heraldic and historic characters.
I was hoping to base it on a free download campaign set called “Knight of the shire” which was WoR based but covered the more local struggle for influence and control. Of course I can’t find it anywhere on my hard drive now I want it! It came from a Wargames club site but I can’t remember it’s name.
Anyone out there know it or have a copy?

I think I still have it at home somewhere

Cry Havoc, and all the add on sets, Siege, and Outremer, was a brilliant games system. One of the better board games I've played. I was lucky to know Gary Chalk back then, and we had some fantastic games using figures. It's worth getting hold of, but it goes for silly money on e bay.

I’d forgotten about that one and you sent me a copy - must dig it out and have a look, that might be my ‘task for today’.
