Gaming or painting?

Just wondering who amongst us are wargamers who paint, rather than just painters of wargames figures who hardly ever wargame? I've noticed over the years on LAF for example that hardly any wargames feature nowadays. As this Forum is called the Loose Association of Wargamers am I alone in having noticed the same thing creeping in here too?

I'm predominantly a painter/collector and most of my games are the ones arranged here so few and far between. Mostly because despite having several clubs in my area I'm crap at getting there. But having just moved house I'm now a 10 minute walk from the Whitley Bay club which starts up again this evening. So I have no excuse now, really...

Both really. I do quite a bit of virtual gaming whilst Covid is still prevalent (granted, it’s more hosting games than playing games). I also do some solo gaming every now and then.

That being said, I have my mojo sack full so am doing a lot of painting of late.

For 15 years or so I had a permanent table in my basement and hosted games on a weekly basis. So was more gamer than painter.

After moving to my current house I no longer had a permament table so spent more time painting than gaming.

I am however about to restart regular gaming with James Roach (aka Olicanalad). He has a game at his house most Wednesdays and lives a mile from me.

So hopefully I will be soon be back both with regular gaming and painting.

I suspect many peoples gaming has taken a knock due to Covid. There already seems to be a somewhat gradual return to normal with more face to face games taking place.

No room for a table at home so I mainly play at Warhammer World, about once a month when possible.

Well, for me it's always been about collecting, converting and painting the figures really. I enjoy a game but it is by no means the be and end all of the hobby. I care very little for every must have set of rules, I think the Lardies are very much the Emperor's new clothes, and frankly I am more happy using a home made set of rules that have about two pages. Laserblade and AGW have been the only rulesets that have enthused me at all in the last few years. Having crossed paths with so many wargaming assholes over the years, that disillusioned me greatly. But since 2011 I have been lucky enough to meet and become friends with a splendid group of like minded guys from all over the country, and so my games with the Ayton stalwarts are the only ones I want, and are very much looked forward to. Solo wargaming does not appeal to me much, as it's the social side of our get togethers that are the real fun.
So sadly it looks like I fail as far as this thread goes.
