The Loose Association of Wargamers

Gentlemen, here follows the scenario and Orders of Battle for the 42mm game.


Scenario.

Following the stalemate of the siege of Berwick, British forces now reinforced considerably and joined to the north of the city by the forces from Scotland have encircled the enemy. In a bold move, a European fleet has sallied up the estuary of the Tweed and evacuated the beleaguered Franco/Russian armies. This fleet carried reinforcements and the fleet sailed down the east coast arriving off the Scarborough shores. The fleet spent several hours bombarding the town of Scarborough, causing many civilian casualties and causing the survivors to flee the town. Russian gunboats secured the harbour, and the first of many transports began disembarking troops of the new European alliance. These forces seized the town. The following day having drawn up their dastardly plans this huge European army prepared to launch it's assault on York. The plan being to march through the Vale of Pickering, and then on to the fair city of York.

The refugees fleeing Scarborough had raised the alarm and forces were assembled to oppose this assault. Many of the forces from the Berwick siege had been rushed down to the area via the still working rail links, and were busily establishing blocking positions in the Vale. The East Riding Volunteer Corps had been engaged in fierce skirmishing against the enemy. but bruised and still defiant had fallen back on the Ayton area. It was there that the defences were put in place. The plucky British and their allies awaited the coming storm...........................

My army seems to have acquired a Foot Regiment not on my list...is that intentional or accidental? (Or do I need to find some figures and throw some paint around?? )

If you are referring to the Royal Guard, it's a gash one of Whiskey's. As it was Danish I thought I'd let you have it. A Royal prince needs some Royal Guards.

Cheers Simon. I haven't done a thorough count, but a rough estimate is in the region of 1,400-1,500 figures. That has got to make it one of the largest AGW games in 42mm yet. Apart from the centre commands, who will, strangely enough be in the centre and act as CinC's, the flank commands will draw to see who faces who, just to add a little fog of war. I am thinking of not having distinctions for units, due to game size and time constraints, and possibly also dropping the "What Luck" cards which can slow things down. Unless anybody has strong objections to either measure. What I don't want is players sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for their move. I do think the card activation can be kept in as it also contributes to a fog of war, and doesn't slow things down too much.

Does the card system allow the next 9ne to show, while the current one is being acted on, so the next mover can plan ahead. Definite camera time, as I am not booked into a game on sunday, I can be W H Russell or Kate Aidy, depending on your point of view.

No, the cards are drawn randomly from the top of the pack, so there is no clue as who goes next. Can be very frustrating at times, but hey ho, it's war.
