The Loose Association of Wargamers

An arty farty shop has opened up in nearby Falsgrave. Actually, it may have been there some time, but I've just noticed it.
Amongst other useful stuff, it has W&N brushes, which I know are quality, but also has W&N acrylic like paints, in tubes.
Has anyone used these paints & were they any good?

I’ve got them for painting bases. Quite happy with them. I’d say a little too thick for painting figures.

I've seen them used for figure painting. Artists acrylics are meant to be thinned to your requirements (which can be anything from oil paint thick to watercolour thin) not used neat from the tube.

And you certainly shouldn't use them in pies.

The important thing to remember is that they are not actually designed for figure painting, and require way too much faff. The W and N inks are very useful though. The paints taste very bad in pies however.

Yeah, this is what I was trying to say in a less elegant way. I also really rate their brush cleaner. Once a month, an overnight soak allows my brushes to last for around 500. - 600 figures. And I bought one bottle of cleaner for less than a fiver just under 5 years ago and still going strong.

I recently found that the Windsor & Newton matt varnish spray is a bit shit (very glossy) as well as being twice the price as my usual, but temporarily unavailable Montana spray.

I've always found Winsor and Newton Matt spray varnish excellent and gives a very matt finish! It's been my go to varnish for years and i've never found it glossy???

Perhaps it's a bad batch, but this can, which I bought as an emergency measure to finish stuff off for Warfare when they'd run out of my usual brand, is absolutely awful.

Is it the normal matt or the Professional one?
