I loved the story about the Gurkhas finding out they get to jump with parachutes!

The more you read about the fighting in Burma, the more you realise how good Slim and his subordinates actually were (although he made some mistakes early on). I wonder who the officer who shot himself was?

I think it was probably Captain Roseby, the 2IC, who had been seriously wounded. Fuller and four of his officers had been killed and one of the British platoon commanders broke out, along with twenty wounded men.
