The Loose Association of Wargamers

I've been doing a bit of re-basing on my oldest wargaming army - a French Napoleonic Corps.
These are some of my oldest figures...& newest ones (I'm still finishing the Lancers).



It provides a comfortable night's gaming with 12 infantry battalions, 2 artillery batteries, a cavalry brigade, command & paraphernalia.

The heart of any Napoleonic army - the infantry. It comes in all types - light and line, foreign regiments, formal & campaign dress:













Figures are a mix of plastic & metal; Hinton Hunt, Newline & Kennington, HaT, Revell, Strelets, Zvesda.

I have a heavy cavalry corps, a similar Line infantry corps and a Imperial Guard corps to expand for bigger games (yes, Napoleon is not the only megalomaniac).

Not bad, mate. That's an interesting mix of armies that you've acquired.

These are certainly not my best work but I have an affection for what is my oldest army.
This is their third (& probably final) re-basing but I expect to see them in action next year when I'm planning a series of 1814 battles - please don't point out they're more an 1812 army than a Campaign of France force!

Don, I don't understand why people get knotted up if the figures are a year or few out of whack with a game- unless, perhaps, it's a display game specifically put together to recreate (not play) a battle. My 18mm Prussians and Austrians I'll use for replaying Grant's original Mollwitz are SYW, so wrong flags, some wrong uniforms and most of the painted and based regiments weren't at Mollwitz- but be buggered if I'll re-flag and re-paint them just for that game.

It's your hobby, mate, so do it the way that suits you. And if your way gives someone ulcers then that's a bonus.

True, Dal. Keep in mind, several years ago, 1/72 wargaming meant you often had to compromise over accurate figures.
I'm also thinking the 'rivet-counter' is not all that common- in my experience anyway.

Out of he 15 Show games we've done, the *only* complaint we got from Joe Public was from a Polish gentleman who suggested the Czapkas on our Nap. Polish figures were wrong. Even he reluctantly conceded that 200+ years ago, they may have been different from now.

In the '22 Show, we had a couple of nice chats with South Africans about our Zulu warriors. Of course it might help that we're at a Train Show & nearly everyone has never even heard of historical wargaming.

I think I also spotted the odd guy playing "Airfix Charades" as well.

I must confess, when I read "Davout's Corps" I was really hoping for the Auerstadt version - and I thought "1806 French in 20mm - that's going to take some doing!", but this is still very, very good.

Great stuff Donald- its always good to see a French Napoleonic army - I was going to say you can't beat it - but that's not true!
