The Raid
The Raid
Early action from today's French and Indian War game. More over on the blog for those inclined to take a peek.

I'm intrigued by the use of liquorice allsorts as game markers
Seriously though what I do want to ask is about the grass baseboard in picture 5 - I'm intrigued by it
Looks superb and am wondering what it is as seems to be a mat of tufts or something?

Re: The Raid
Yet another cracking battle report, despite Johnny Frog snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. As always, great looking battlefield and troops.
Rules? You ask me what rules do I use. No, I don't do rules.

LITKO Plastic tokens glued to school supplies plastic counters, not sweeties at all
The material is an artificial hanging basket liner. Matt found it in a garden centre in Hay on Wye. Know no more, sorry.

Re: The Raid
Another good read, mate. That was cruel of the rules- giving you a sniff of victory followed by a club to the head.
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?
Re: The Raid
Lovely looking game, very nice AAR and pictures, and the modified BP rules seem to have worked well. They do give a nice quick game, and with suitable modifications, even some period flavour
It's a scale of engagement I would do with Sharp Practice, which has both advantages and disadvantages, Let's just say it has inspired me to look out that blockhouse and North American dwellings. If I squint a bit I might just let myself use those 1745 infantry as well.

Frankly Doug I'd rather put my todger in a food processor than touch the abomination that is Sharp Practice. I'm pleased you enjoyed the AAR & pics. I feel one reason BP is sneered at so frequently in Social Media is a mix of anti-Warlord sentiment and lazy gamers who won't put in the work in preparing their army's stats for a game.

Re: The Raid
Out of curiosity, what makes SP such ‘an abomination’? It must be something really terrible and life changing to evoke such a strong feeling of apparent disgust in you?
Most people I know simply say ‘Didn’t like them/they’re not for me’ when it comes to a set of rules they don’t like

Re: The Raid
I feel pretty much the same about all the Lardy rubbish. Over hyped junk. I'm disinterested in all their pre game tatting about, the actual rules for firing and combat are poor, the pinning rubbish in CoC for example detracts from the game. As to SP,well, if folk need help with things like characterisation then they must have been near the end of the queue when imagination was given out. Above all, I absolutely detest Figure Fiddling games with a few figures. Wargaming is spectacle or it is nothing. Of course, folk are entirely free to have their own opinion, what I think matters not a jot in the great scheme of things.
