Dice holder for a D20

As soon as you mention D20s on the internet, you start mingling with D&D types - sterling folk, I'm sure but not au fait with what I want. So I've come here to ask you more grounded types about small, cheap holders/stands that will display a D20, with a flat side uppermost ie so you can see which number is displayed. "Cheap" is important - there are intricately carved ones for $10 for D&D fans to display their favourite dice. I'd need about 25 or more. One per unit.

There exists dice holders for D6 to use as casualty markers. I know as I've copied commercial ones & made some out of cardboard & matchsticks. I'd like to use my D20 for similar purposes but unless quite firmly held, they'll tend to roll, potentially losing the all-important top-most number - the current casualty score.

Something circular....a hole with a 15mm diameter?

I thought of this and it would work to a degree but the constantly changing face on the D20 is the issue.

I, too, "have" a guy with various laser cutters etc. Sadly, he has the imagination of a rock. However, if you can point him in the right direction, he can usually create something worthwhile. You need to show pictures, give dimensions & then check his prototype but he made me a pile of various gaming tokens ('shaken', 'charge', 'rout' etc)in plastic & he does all my movement trays.

I also will go to the big hardware store nearby. You never know what you'll find....some large nuts might do? Paint them green.
BTW a few weeks ago I found some picture hanging wire there that looked a lot like the barbed wire GW sells at their usual premium. This stuff was cheap.

A simple steel washer might well do the job (or two glued together for depth). Because the hole is circular the dice will sit in it, not totally securely but probably enough for gaming.
A quick and easy alternative might be to drill a hole of the appropriate size in an mdf base and then cut or file three notches for the corners of the D20 to locate in.

I'm not going to answer the question because i can't add anything to the above.

But back in the day - when using WRG ancients - we would write a list of units on a piece of paper and tally casualties on that. Took at most a minute to write out the sheet, recorded accurately and kept clutter off the table. Rulewriters now have a mantra that record keeping = bad. It's not always the case.

Combining GMs post with the original D20 question (sort of) I remember playing a game decades ago where each unit had a starting strength/morale up to 20. This was marked on a peg board and then reduced as casualties were taken etc... the resulting figure was the value used when testing morale on a D20.
