Ayton 2023

Greetings all,

Right then, I know that we discussed a large colonial game (mini campaign style) as next year's offering, and after some initial chat it's all gone rather quiet and dormant. So before I make any more commitment to it I thought I'd ask if there was still enough interest to support it. I know that one or two of us are not as enthused about the idea. So if we do have a change of direction, it might be time to re-consider that. Given the time constraints I would suggest that any alternative ideas should consider doing something that would not use up a great deal of prep in the remaining months till May. However, if Colonial is still on the table (so to speak), then I can concentrate on some planning.

What do you think?

I am definitely still up for colonial shenanigans at Ayton next year. I've not done much over the last few months for a variety of reasons but I've scheduled a Sudan game at the club next month to kick-start the enthusiasm. Happy to supply plenty of troops for both sides and also to assist EB as native controller. He and I between us might do better than Mr Babbage (then again, maybe not!)

I'm native controller? Errrrrrr? Doesn't that just mean I'm going to get slaughtered?

It means the previously threatening and fearsome natives are now being seen in a new light

I'm still up for bashing some natives on the Sunday, Saturday i'll be getting my Trojan on.

If people decide against Colonial I would probably do two days of Trojan gaming rather than dip into something else (unless it was really tempting and I had a ready to go army :D )

I could be easily tempted away from Colonial as it means a new period for me. Though if we're definately doing it thats fine and I'll recycle some Nubians/Arab types and maybe supplement with some Frenchies? Are we still using MWWBK?

If I'm in charge of the Natives can we use my own rules for colonial wargames, which are in their early stages of development?

Rule number one: Natives move very quickly.
Rule number two: Regulars and Colonial types reload very slowly.
