It will soon be January and that means detox, crap resolutions, unachievable new projects
tax returns and never-ending rain.

What better way to cheer yourself up than to paint a couple of those renaissance figures that you bought to play in the excellent gaming day that Andy cancelled.

Doesn't take much commitment, just a little dabble with Buff or appreciation of a big pike.

No amount of figures too small, so let's see a little 17thC daubing over the next 31 days.

Nice! I'll be finishing a few SYW bits and pieces for a Kolin refight on the 14th, then some Swedish and Saxon Napoleonics, followed by Febreichsuary, when I try to finish my SYW Reichsarmee.

I can't think of any group that I would want to dabble with less than this lot, and leave the pike length comparisons on TMP, where they indulge in such things.

I shall be making my traditional attempt at Japanuary, in which - for the third year in a row - I attempt (probably in vain, once again) to put together my Warlord plastic Japanese WW2 CoC platoon in readiness for the TFL Far East Handbook. These Japanese have, over that 2-3 year period, expanded from the original 10 sprues/60 figures purchased in a Black Friday sale in 2019 (they went in for monster platoons) to around 150 figures, starting with two extra sprues to deliver more kneeling figures for gun teams and the like, about three dozen metal figures manning support weapons (MMG, 70mm gun, FOO, senior command, and a veteran section wearing bundles of grass as a cunning disguise), and two more boxes of plastic infantry - essentially a second platoon - purchased on a whim (and a prayer) from a local chap at rock bottom price last month. Let's see if it can be third time lucky.....

And if anyone happens to be in Newbury on Sunday, 15th January, and fancies wandering along to the Newbury Historical Study Association around 09:00, they can listen to some chap named Morrissey wittering on about the battle of Bunker's Hill. There's also a big 28mm wargame of the battle taking place from about 11:00 onwards, using British Grenadier rules.

I'm taking part in the Analogue Hobbies painting challenge and suggested a side challenge for "my codpiece is bigger than yours" in n attempt to get my Italian Wars armies finished so I hope to be painting a few

I’m painting Zulus. Why is this relevant to this post? Because this time next year you’ll be posting a similar challenge to get people to paint the Colonial stuff they bought before Andy nerfed the project. So technically I’m just getting a head start.
