For Darrell - Forged in Battle Byzantines painted by Fernandos

Apart from scraping together the necessary funds, the other main challenge of getting stuff painted by the folks at Fernandos is finding suitable illustrations for them to work from. Given that even the most basic of units includes variants such as musicians, standard bearers etc, the best source is often pictures of other wargames units. If those happen to be spectacularly well painted, and in a larger scale, all the better.

For my Justinian Byzantine horde from the third Forged in Battle Kickstarter, our very own Darrell (Atheling_2006) was kind enough to let me use his amazing gallery of Byzantine figures. This was invaluable in getting my painting instructions pulled together in June, and despite Sri Lanka being in the middle of a massive economic crisis, they were returned to me in October, painted to Fernandos ‘Collectors’ standard, and I managed to get them all based up before going on holiday in December.

I’m pretty sure I promised Darrell some pictures, so here they are, arrayed on the snowfields of Canada. Fernandos are excellent at following instructions and providing sample pictures to allow you to correct any misinterpretation, so any errors you spot are entirely down to me.

Indeed I did Richard! They look marvelous!

They look absolutely fabulous arrayed like that. I was thinking of investing in a couple of large 15-18mm armies for the era but I've got too much on my plate as it is. The 15mm thing will happen though so hopefully we can roll some dice together at some point in the not too distant future

Good work by Fernandos, but I can't hear the drums. No, nothing. Must be something in the air.....

Thanks chaps, I can genuinely take none of the credit.

The timetable of the blog dictates their first outing will be in 4 games time, which at current speed is about a year away🙄
