Death of the Crown Prince

Post by Jeremy »

Today I crossed the Pennines to sunny Penistone to play in a six player What a Cowboy! game. The scenario was the death of the Crown Prince Napoleon in Zululand.

The Imperial forces compromised Napoleon, Lt Carey, le Tocq and 5 Volunteer horse. The Zulus had 4 leaders and 40 Zulus - ‘henchmen’ in the rules, and the objective was to get the Crown Prince off the table.

With some minor tweaks (all to the Zulus) we had a cracking game which really felt different to the normal WAC! games and full of period feel.

Everyone mounted up and sped for safety, aside from Napoleon who lagged behind. John, the rules author, took part and managed to lose Carey in a splendidly glorious but senseless charge.

We ended up killing Napoleon, le Toq, Cary and 2 Volunteer horse before the rest made it off table.

Great fun, showing just how versatile these rules are. I’m now thinking about all sorts of periods to adapt it too.

That looks good Jeremy- I thought WAC was only for a few figures/side so wondered how you managed 40 Zulus

You can have Henchmen, nominally 3 in a group, but we stretched it up to 5 in a group. Worked surprisingly well. A couple of well placed shots saw two groups done for so they’re not Uber tough.

Nice looking game, mate. The expended .22 cartridge- game marker or threat to the opposition players ? (I've heard youse Poms take your games seriously.)
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?

The tone has got to be a bright golden pink, I would have thought.
