My Road to Ayton

Post by Jeremy »

This is not to be confused with EB’s road to Ayton. Although mine has been a year in the making, we all know EB’s is far longer. And far more dangerous!

My road to Ayton started in February 2017 when we learnt we were moving to England and that finally Ayton was a possibility! Of course, it was already decided that it was to be Imaginations - not something simple like Dark Age skirmish. After a bit of thought, I decide my army would be based on the British forces at Minden. So I ordered some troops for collection at Salute ‘17 and so it began!

Given the size and scale of this expedition, all figures had to be painted to pass the 3 foot test otherwise I’d never finish in time!

Apologies for picture quality.

My Commander, Lord Godfrey Oswald Derby Strewth.

And that Dear Reader is where a sane man would have called it a day and moved on. Except I’m not, so I didn’t. If there is only one thing the games at Purps’ and Gary’s taught me, it’s that size matters - it’s not how you use it... so I recruited some more troops.

I’d like to say here is where it ended, but it didn’t. More to follow!

It's a fine collection indeed, not just for its quality but also because there's something rather special about a red coated army with stacks of lace.

Very well done, Jezza.

Thanks for the kind words chaps! It has been, and still is, a labour of love!

CB, that is a very distinct possibility! Around half the infantry and artillery and all the cavalry will be seeing action for the first time at Ayton!

Excellent looking army...just look out for Indians in trees, bears in woods, airships and the mysteries of the campaign. I might have lied about the airships. :D

That's a tremendous effort Jeremy, well done. Best of all, you've actually posted pics of all your excellent work. Can't have too much of that. I'm looking forward to seeing these guys on the table, and hopefully blowing the muthas away with canister.

An excellent and impressive collection Jeremy, painted pretty speedily too :clappy: :clappy: :clappy: :clappy: :clappy:
Not sure that yellow lace or facings are wise, its bound to encourage those figures to leg it at the first sign of trouble

We're yellow right? Ok lads were' off :D
