And so it begins

Post by ochoin »

This began because I decided I did not like the look of my ECW Pike & Shot regiments.
The 8 Covenanter & 7 English Royalist P&S regiments all conformed to the basing & figure ratio demanded by the rules.
4 bases of 3 musketeers flanking a 4 figure command stand & a 4 figure pike stand.
But it just didn't look ....right.

So I decided to acquire 60 odd Tumbling Dice pikemen in order to add a 4 figure base to every P&S regiment.
For the look of the thing.

This will be a project for the next number of months.

It doesn't take you months to do anything, Donald. This time next week I expect to see fifteen reorganised regiments.

Agreed, Donald, you need lots of pointy sticks for pikemen to look right. Get the camera ready for photos when they're finished, mate.

Yes, 4 pike look a bit lonely. I tried it when I was kicking the tires on DbECW bases. I could only think to scale down.

I was watching videos about the Swedish/Polish war last night. I'm planning on painting my Swedes etc next year.

If we ever get to 20mm C17th I've got a whole bunch of Highlanders willing to come down from the hills and cause mayhem :D

Donald - with similar armies (and using the same rules) I decided to improve the look of my units by "double-basing" both pike and shot. This meant putting two rows of figures on each 40mm x 20mm base - and for the pike, this allowed me to use ranks 2 and 3 for the ensigns (so I have four flags per unit instead of two- courtesy of Wargames Designs) arranged thus:

Base {..M-M-M-M..P-P-P-P..M-M-M-M..} Base
One {..M-M-M-M..P-E-E-P..M-M-M-M..} One

Base {..M-M-M-M..P-E-E-P..M-M-M-M..} Base
Two {..M-M-M-M..P-P-P-P..M-M-M-M..} Two

Obviously harder for you to do as I believe 20mm figures use 15mm basing sizes.
