As I know a lot of you(myself included) have an interest both in the 'Rampant' series of rules and in Elizabethan period warfare (ie hypothetical Spanish Armada Invasion), this might be of interest.

Skirmishing with pikemen doesn't really float my boat - odd, as I'm very much in favour in other periods.

Just not pikey periods......

I don’t think it’s meant to be seen as skirmishing, but as reduced figure units.

Interesting spot, thanks Paul.
I agree Jeremy, units of 12 figures can represent a larger number, anything short of requiring formed units really.
Makes a good game anyway.

Individual 'fencing' with pike and half pike was very much trained and they were used during sieges too.

Don't get me started on pikes....................

although...........a game similar to Lion Rampant which had reasonable rules for pike units would almost certainly get me painting some of those silly 28mm toys you lot are so fond of.

A twelve man pike block looks perfectly passable and the shieldwall rules can be modified to reflect a pike formation. Flank it with a couple of units of Arquebusiers (using crossbow rules) and bobs your proverbial.

I bought Pikey Rampant on a short lived interest in the period. I could be persuaded back into looking into it a bit more.

I used a similar set of 'Pike Rampant' developed by Stuart at the Army Royal blog for our Armada game at Partizan. Despite having no practice beforehand they ran fine and even Chris and Graham seemed to handle them ok. The basic 'Rampant' engine seems strong enough to cope with most periods.

And those TAG figures are very pretty
