War of Spanish Succession musings.

Rather than continue on the ecw thread I decided to muse here.
The wss I feel is the first of the lace wars, it was not just the ring bayonet or metal ramrods and the beginnings of platoon fire and 3 rank lines. But also the use of multi line formations, dragoons being used far more as cheap cavalry and the very beginnings of hussars, firstly hungarian, then french.
A wss battlefield and formations would have been instantly recognisable to fred or napolean or even grant, in a way that ecw ant tyw or even 9 years war would not.

Definitely.
Fredericks first experience of campaign was with the ‘getting on a bit’ Prince Eugene.
In repeated writings, Frederick refers back to the genius of Marlborough and Eugene and bases his whole mode of operations/ patten of warfare in there style. Then mid 18th century, armies are repeatedly following the Prussian model so it’s all a long process.
I don’t think Your battlefield is really changing even slightly until artillery gets lighter and more mobile.

Also remember his key general in the WAS was the Old Dessauer who had led the Prussian contingent under Eugene.

I am having trouble with the rust spots. The doctor assures me that a zinc wipe will work.
I'm sure you promised us WSSs. Thank god for that, I just need to stay away from Baccus.
It really is tricorning without lace. And who can resist John Churchill and Eugene?
