Anyone ever heard of the Wargamer Doombox? It isn't something in Purps' cellar it's a genuine opportunity to buy a pig in a poke.
For only £21.99 + £4.95p&p you can buy a box of stuff with very little idea of what's in it. You get a bit of a clue like historical/ fantasy/ sci fi or any combo thereof but that's it. They do a different box each month and there appears to be a bit of a discount if you subscribe for 3 months at a time with some extras like dice and random paints thrown in.
February's box contained
5 x Goblin Spitters (Mantic, plastic) - £7.99 / £4.99
1 x Goblin Crimson Blade Leader (Chronopia, metal) - Out of Production
1 x British Steel Armoured Suit (Westwind, metal) - £6.00
1 x Templar Gendarme (Warzone: Tribes Of Earth, metal) - Out of Production
6 x Agincourt Knights/Men-at-Arms (Perry Miniatures, plastic) - £3.33
6 x Landsknechts Pikemen (Warlord Games, plastic) - £3.60

If that isn't tempting enough for only £1 more someone (possibly them) is flogging the boxes on ebay.
Tempted?? Nah, nor me.

Ohhh, shite I'll have lots of ideas for but won't ever paint. I'm genuinely interested!

OK, but warn us first so we don't end up bidding on them.

I do not understand the concept, look anyone wants to throw £25.00 a month on random stuff, subscribe to the Rapier Miniatures random minis box, guaranteed £30+ of miniatures in 2 scales and no more than 1/3rd Fantasy.

If I want to have a "what was I thinking" moment I'll go to the shed and open up a random box not shell out for "rare OOP" Target Miniatures/Heartbreaker figures. The lack of any realistic poses in a lot of them was frightening.

I find that shopping while drunk achieves the same effect.

The trouble with that is that the drunken-ness makes you want to recreate the unrealistic poses - which can be dangerous.

i just dont see how this concept works for wargamers. its big in e.g. the sewing crafts community because someone can always put to use threads, random pieces of fabric, buttons etc. But for wargaming ? it makes no sense.

You would have to be awfully relaxed about proxy figures to get any mileage from it. "I haven't actually got any 95th Rifles so I'm using these 32mm Death Guard Chaos Marines".
