The Loose Association of Wargamers

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can get some railway track suitable for 10mm wargames? I've had a look at 'N' Gauge model railway stuff and the prices are generally prohibitive. Obviously, I don't need electrical current to run through it or model trains to be able to run on it, so I'd be perfectly happy with knackered old 'N' Gauge stuff if anyone knows of a source?

I'm fairly sure that someone, somewhere does resin track pieces for the scale, but I can't find them (searches for 10mm railway track just throws up the railway modelling '10mm scale' which isn't the same thing at all!). Neither Timecast or Pendraken produce railway track.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I had a look at eBay, but it all seemed to be pricey 'as good as new' or complete layouts being sold on.

Look out for swap meets - should be plenty of track available. N gauge might be a bit less common in your neck of the woods. Peco N gauge flexitrack shouldn't be all that expensive anyway. 3 quid for 3 feet https://www.track-shack.com/acatalog/Pe ... L-300.html Even for a cardi that isn't too bad...

Anyway, that stuff looks the business! My Googling didn't find that earlier.

There is a Japanese scale that is more like 6mm. I can’t remember what it is called or where you’d look for it, but if it even exists outside my imagination it probably would scale down well and I seem to remember it was balls cheap.
Plus think of the hours of fun you’ll have googling for a thing you don’t know the name of.
1)it may be Chinese
2)it may not be 6mm
3) but it’s small, asian and comes in bubble wrap.

N Gauge should be easy to find. It's technically 1:160 but the generally accepted figure height for N gauge figures is 12mm foot to top of head.
Peco do a flexitrack in 3ft lengths which is er… flexible and probably the best bet for wargames. The rails can be cut if 3ft is too long.
Make sure you buy N gauge though as it's also available in OO.

British N gauge is 1/148 scale or 2mm to the foot so isn't too far off, my model railway figures are not massively out of scale with my Pendraken WW2 stuff. In fact most of my old British and Germans star in a re-enactment event at the preservation society where my model railway is set. Kato Unitrack is ideal for wargames but chuffing expensive unless you can find odd bits on ebay. The beauty of it is that it comes moulded into a fairly realistic ballast base and is made for repeated assembly and disassembly. In Japan few people have room for a permanent layout and temporary layouts set up at work are common.
