Just how do you do this?
I've finished a load of hussars and a have a few more to go (well a lot actually)
Hussars look superb I think but they take a bit of work, particularly the braid

Can think of 3 ways of painting braid

1 Carefully painting each bit of braid in the requisite colour
2 Dry brushing the braid in the lace colour and wash over with the pelise or dolman colour, then touch up the inevitable coloured stains
3 Dry brushing the braid in the lace colour and wash over with a black wash and just remove any excess dry stain witha further dry brush

I've tried all 3 , 1 is impossible and likely to result in insanity, the third method is my preferred option
Any other suggestions?

I’d do it Option 1 so unfortunately that’s no help to you ....

Likewise, I've tried all three, but have gone back to Method 1.

One technique I use now for 'Hungarian' trefoil-knots is to paint a three-lobed clover-leaf and then add a dot of the backing colour in the centre of each 'leaf'. It's a lot easier than painting the knot by following the curves of the braid.

Normally option 3 for me

3, but before washing, varnish, then do the black wash.

Theres always Option 4 - Contrast Paint!

I've usually done Option 1, but this weekend I did use the CP on top of a base color for my RHA braid as a glaze. Still need to work out my technique a bit but I think this may be a relatively good time saver yielding reasonably good results.

What breed are your Hussars? I found Crusader harder than Foundry braiding wise.

My opinions.....

A) use one's Dremel to remove said lace. Or..

B) paint over the lace with a very dark shade of the lace colour, using reasonable care, then black line between the lace, then pick out the high points of the lace with the lace colour or its highlight.

I omitted the "or" after option A. It sounded like I was suggesting A then B. Only a complete idiot would do that.
