A sad loss to the hobby

That is sad news indeed, I was lucky enough to meet Stuart a couple of times and he was always a gentleman, passionate about his hobby and one of those who encouraged it in others. He will be sorely missed. I hope he is up there somewhere, sitting down to a game with HG Wells, DF, Terry Wise, Charles (senior) and the Brigadier with Paddy Griffiths umpiring. That would be some wargame!!! RIP Mr Asquith, and thank you for your inspirations and contributions.

A fine obituary. Here in Aus in the 70s, there was no wargames scene. The Greats, with their books and magazine articles were our inspiration. He was one of them.

I had the privilege of getting to know him, and gaming with him a few times over the years.
His contribution to the hobby is immeasurable.

I was chatting to a friend of mine who was quite close to SA. He wrote this, which I thought I'd share.

"Stuart had given me a number of signed copies of his books, (he did say unsigned copies are the rare ones )..."

I didn't know him at all but the anecdote speaks volumes.

Found a perfect condition issue of Battlegames from 1980 with Stuart on the cover and an article by him about toy soldier gaming. I've been speaking with his daughter in law and dropped her a line to say I'd like to send it along to the family, they were delighted. If anyone has anything like that I know they would like to see pictures or receive articles etc.
