They were the Guard, it was acceptable to duck if somebody flung turds at them but ducking under cannon shot was tantamount to saluting the Russian artillery and not done as did not show a fine example to les autres

Was throwing turds at La Garde a thing? Colonel Kiley never, ever mentioned that in any of his brown-nos....errr, highly informed commentaries on the French Napoleonic army, drawing entirely on primary sources such as Elting.
