Question: red stars on Soviet steel helmets in WWII... how common was this practice?
And did it denote particular arms or units?

The only metal ones I know sold separately are Crusader's 3-man ATG team - less than ideal for heavy stuff.
Lots of 3DP stuff on easy, but all seem to come as a set with the gun. I'm sure an email to the vendor would secure crew without.
