My first game of 2023

My mate Dave W invited myself and Chris H over for a DBA 3.0 Big Battle game, yesterday, using his 28mm Polybian Romans and Celtiberians. I don't mind DBA and it gives a good, quick game, even with 30+ bases per side.

My rusty memories of DBA were soon refreshed and, after dicing for who got what, David took the Romans, I took the Spanish right wing and Chris had the centre and left. We did the terrain and camps things, deployed our troops and away we went.

The (poor, taken by phone) photos below will tell the story. The first two show the two sides set up, while the third shows the end of the game- an observant viewer may notice the severe lack of Celtiberian figures in the centre of the table.

"Lost"? More like got me arse kicked around the block three times, Donald. Still, it was a fun game with lots of banter, discussion of the changes in DBA V3.0, what to play next (David wants to give his 28mm SYW a trot, using Black Powder) and seeing how many times you could swear at the dice without repeating the words.

None at all, mate. I'm looking forward to it, David's 28mm SYW figures are well painted, with flags from t'other David at NBA. I know little about Black Powder and will be interested to see how it plays.

As for the DBA, David does set a nice table. The 28mm figures and terrain are all his, painted to his usual high standard. The fort and buildings are all 3D resin prints that he's painted up. It's dangerous playing with his gear- so many reasons to start all over again in 28mm.....

Shame, for you, about the outcome.

It was still a fun game, mate. I win some, lose a lot more, Iain. It's costing me a fortune in thrown away dice- after all, losses are the dice's fault.
