Yes. I went for the Austrians and Bavarians. I can always add on the Tyrolese later. I just undercoated a batch of Victrix French last night that will become Italians.

It’s all me on the smaller projects. For Montrose and the Greeks, it’s indeed BST level stuff. In both cases, I’m making my attempt at doing things in the Grand Manner. So like Cecile B Demille, I’ve got some help (one hard working dude who paints for a living) on the cast of thousands. I’m responsible for the lead characters, storyboards and overall art direction; meaning for the Greeks that I’ll paint all the command or otherwise special status figures, the ekdromoi, and all the markers (like the Goat Sacrifice augury that precedes the charge).

Does that include the Bavarians?

So, HPFP, how many of you are there working on all that lot, because no mere mortal would be able to complete all of those projects in just one lifetime. The Greeks especially look like a BST (Biblical-Sized Task) in progress.

That's really impressive, mate. I particularly like your Württemburgers and Irish, plus it's good to see someone else doing their own decals. Are you using an inkjet or laser to print them?

how have yours turned out in the past and what did you find worked best?

I'm pretty pleased with what I've been able to do, mate. It's much easier to decal than paint 52 mitre fronts on 18mm figures, as below. I don't think you need any advice from me, mate- you've done excellent work. You've already worked out the most important thing and print the artwork on paper first, to make sure the decals fit, before you print onto the decal paper (don't ask....). A couple of things you probably know:

A dab of spit, applied with a cotton bud to where you want the decal to go, works as well as any commercial wetting solution and it lets you slide the decal into position more easily.

You can use other colours as a base besides white. Gloss light grey, cream, buff, yellow and sand give some nice effects.

If you wet the backing paper of the decal(I use a cotton bud) rather than dipping it in water there's much less chance of the ink bleeding out when you've cut close to the print.

Alles ist nicht in ordnung.. The basis for a new scenario entitled “Who Drew the Dicks?”, in which the Nazis are on the hunt for some perpetrators relentlessly tagging Kubelwagens.



Of course I’ll need some more and better objectives/targets. So…





Received my first tranche of hoplites from my friend Rex. A few shots to show the process and the finished lochos. 7-10 of these will comprise the full phalanx object. A massive phalanx object as I’ve assembled 17 boxes of Victrix and the original Immortal hoplite sets. At completion I plan to have the Thebans and Spartans that were present at Leuctra.

Four ranks of 8 hoplites is the lochos, 2-4 of which form the taxis, which is the basic maneuver unit in the phalanx.



Ranking up the Victrix buggers at 8 figures across a 5” frontage is a bit painstaking, but I don’t care for the open ranks phalanx look, so where there’s a will, there’s a way.



Each lochos basically generates a stand of psiloi, so this is the more complete module from which the main body of troops will be built.
