I haven't achieved much in the way of painting for quite a while now but I still manage to - slowly - crank out some figures.
See attached a unit of Gothic noble infantry & 2 Goth warlords. Just finished. Been working on them for about 6 weeks.
They are quite a landmark in that they conclude my Late Antiquity forces. No more Goths to paint. No more Huns or Sarmatians. And no more Late Romans.
Done & just gaming ('War & Conquest") left.

Nicely done Donald
Re: Good Goth!
Nice. mate. Have you blooded them yet?
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?
Re: Good Goth!
Hi, Dal.
Thanks. I think my Late Antiquity forces look pretty special - at least by my standards.
Apart from a flurry of Lion Rampant games, I haven't gamed anything for quite a while.
The backlog is extensive - I want a second Naps gaming using the V&F rules, I keep looking at SYW figures & games here & positively salivate at the thoughts of a game and, of course, a 'War & conquest' match with Huns & Goths against the so far hapless Late Romans.
In spite of a catastrophic shortfall in teachers in my college, the state & the country, I'm thinking I'll need to think long & hard about next year. When I say I'm nearly irreplaceable, I'm referring not to my abilities but to what my employers think is my main asset - I'm breathing & upright. But the workload & pressure is marked & growing.
cheers, donald

Re: Good Goth!
I know how you feel, mate. The couple of DBSYW games took most of the edge off the SYW yearning. Chris is keen on NMTBH (he beat me in a training game), but I've also got my WWII, ACW and other figures languishing. I'm lucky, though, in so far as David, Chris and the mob here are good people and opponents.
I've been in that head space twice, mate. You need a circuit breaker, Donald, before things break- even 12 months off may help, but that's putting a band-aid on a gut shot. Teachers, like the other essential service personnel, have been too long exploited by incompetent and self-serving bureaucrats and politicians. Remember that dying on the job is not part of your package- if you need to go then go, and look after your life and your family.

Re: Good Goth!
Amusingly (???), our staff room is named 'The Gubbins Room' after a teacher who died whilst still working as is the boarders' dining room named after Tony Baldwin (heart attack).
In the Gubbins is a photo gallery wall with the pictures of 10 or so teachers who died similarly, including one who had a seizure in the classroom whilst in front of a class of the boys. It's a measure of fame, I guess, to be so remembered but if given the choice, I'll pass.

Re: Good Goth!
I know the feeling! In my case it isn't helped by administrative incompetence in the hospital that has cost me and others a substantial amount of money. Got any long service leave to take?ochoin wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 2:21 am In spite of a catastrophic shortfall in teachers in my college, the state & the country, I'm thinking I'll need to think long & hard about next year. Re: Good Goth!
Ten photos? Bloody hell, Donald! Where's the school? Shayol Ghul?
PS Etranger, it seems to be the same everywhere- NSW, SA, VIC and QLD at least.
But back on topic- they can't be real Goths, Ochoin. I can't see a speck of black lipstick, eye shadow or nail polish on any of 'em.

You probably can't see the black fishnet stockings they're wearing nor the fact they're listening to Siouxsie & the Banshees.
