Actually, seeing as there aren't that many of us attending, I'm wondering if we should try a weekends gaming at the hotel, just to see if it works?
If it turns out to be less than satisfactory, unfortunate, but move on. But if it's OK, perhaps next time we could negotiate better rates for the rooms.......
Just saying.

Re: Ayton November 2023
Just a thought - if the hotel is a viable option are there other dates possible? That might allow some of our missing brethren to join us?
Why us? Cos we're 'ere lad, nobody else.

Thanks for being on point for thisEssex Boy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:05 am I've spoken to Andrea at the Lodge.
....
There is no charge but, if we use the hotel for our games I would feel obliged to repay their hospitality by eating in the hotel restaurant of an evening and spending some money each night in the bar. I think that's only fair, but that's just a personal thing.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me , although it might mean rejigging our hours a little as we'd need to set up each day after 10.30am
If the hotel does it we could always go back to ordering a lunch buffet from them, if not you ideas sound pretty good.
Re: Ayton November 2023
Current the dates are 10 to 12 November (the only weekend the Village Hall is only available in November). Some of us are arriving Thursday, evening to get a game in on Friday.
The other November weekends are.....
3 to 5 - it doesn't look like there's any availability on Booking.Com or the Lodge's own site.
17 to 19 - seems to be possible.
24 to 26 - some room availability but this is the weekend of the Battleground Show.
My vote is to stick to the current weekend. Suck it and see how it goes with just a few of us.

If the dates were changed:
Some of those coming might not be able to make the new dates;
If the intention was to change for greater attendance than that would bring the hall back into play again and we'd end up going on circles.
At the moment I think we have workable numbers (8-10), an essentially free venue, and a plan. So my vote, for what it's worth, would be with EB and to stick with what we have.

I'll second that. Sounds like Iain has come up with a workable solution to save the weekend. My vote is to go with "The EB Solution" (I am copyrighting that phrase and am currently working up a film script. MGM are interested).Paul wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 1:50 pm If the dates were changed:

Rules? You ask me what rules do I use. No, I don't do rules.

I can see Mel Gibson playing EB
Re: Ayton November 2023
Stretch the budget and get Jonnie Depp, otherwise the film will lack credibility.

So far Mark Addy is in the running, and there's always Christopher Biggins.
