Well Tiny Wargames finally picked up the phone today and I've ordered the most expensive blanket I've seen since OC Domestic Flt last dragged me into Tregwynt Woollen Mill...

The great link there is that Subbuteo was originally played on old army blankets. The first set of rules included instructions for marking out the pitch on them.
