Think about how much it would effect the hobby if you could only use figures until they'd been "killed".
It would cost EB an absolute fortune though

Doesn't this mean it's not a simulation? Kind of like making a simulation of a human but in classic "android" form. It looks like a human, sort of acts like a human but won't , ultimately, follow the same exact "life" paths.
I think, the simulation is trying to follow the same life paths. The ideal is that what you do on the tabletop produces the same result as it would in real life. This, of course, is hard to achieve because of the abstraction and near infinite number of outcomes.

At the other end of the spectrum, the "game rather than simulation" approach sacrifices fidelity to real world outcomes in orde to make for a playable game.

I guess I like games to be more "Hollywood" and less "Documentary".

Not really, his cavalry especially run away more than they die I thought.

Some games yes, some games no.

While I do not mind a more cinematic play style (in fact enjoy it). I also like the building blocks to be based in reality of the forces. So to use WW2 I like them to reflect the difference in British/US/German platoons. When I first played Bolt Action, being told, don't bother with brens they are useless, immediately blackmarked the game as a ww2 game.

Nothing should ever be more Hollywood. Including Hollywood.
