Lovely command base. I seem to recall, from reading the old Pan's "British Battles" series volume on the Crimean War, that one of the Russian commanders had been castrated by a Turkish musket ball in a previous war, and was always irritable as a consequence. These chaps all look far too relaxed.....

Grandson of Babbington Nolan, a corporal in the 13th Light Dragoons who "came into some money" around the same time as the post-Vittoria sacking of King Joseph's baggage train, and used it to buy a commission for Louis Nolan's father. And the rest, as they say, is history. Including Louis Nolan remaining on the books of the Austro-Hungarian army until 1899 - 45 years after buying the farm!

David Hemmings who portrayed the gallant Captain in Tony Richardson's film, was clearly impressed by him as he named his son Nolan, who then went on to portray Sgt. Chuck Grant in Band of Brothers.

Lovely work David. The Russki staff groups are nice, and good to see you managed to squeeze quite a few units out of those older figures.
