Unfortunately, I've bought all the Helion books I want in their many previous "discount" sales. They seem to be the DFS of military history / wargames publishing.....

Thanks, Willz, but P&P is putting the brake on buying from the UK. I just bought Aspects of Arnhem (hardback) for £18.75. P&P was 20 quid (and that £38.75 is still probably cheaper than the price will be in Oz).

The P&P costs for stuff bought from Germany, the US and the UK are getting ridiculous.

An indication of UK postal price increases is that six months ago we sent a framed picture to a friend in the USA it cost around £26 to send. After a few trips around the Atlantic it was returned because although the address was correct we missed off the last four numbers of the zip code (That USPS says isn't necessary!)
We finally got around to resending the exact same parcel (adding to the zip) and it cost £32.

That's a 23% rise in a few months! Postage has been getting expensive here, too, but not like that. The postage hikes here may be because the government is gold plating an "asset" they want to privatise, seeing as Parcel Force sale has been so successful (the idea to sell of OzPost gets floated every couple of years). But what's the excuse in the UK?

Anyway, I hope youse lot didn't all blow your play money in one go.

I think the main problem is the US withdrawing from some international postal union, which kept prices sensible. Whilst this was under Trump, Biden hasn't shown the slightest interest in rejoining, so clearly this has either raked in huge amounts of cash, or made existing activities less punitive for USPS.

I read some comment along those lines on other boards, mate. Being rather (or, as Herself would say, "unbelievably") cynical, I wonder whether that's just an excuse. After all, here it's not just international prices that started galloping up. Even a postage stamp has risen to $1.50 in less than a year.

My only experience of OZ postage is buying from Eureka and presumably if it gets privatised the enormously long time it takes to deliver anything to NZ might improve - because they might buy a van, give the plodding postman a bike and add a sail to the canoe that they use to cross the ditch with
