The Battle of Corbach 1760 (Game Report)

An old mate was back in Wales for a couple of weeks recently (he was transported to New Zealand 18 years ago), so we had to get a game in. He wanted to do a SYW battle, so we decided upon the Battle of Corbach. If you're not familiar with the battle (more often referred to as a 'Combat', as the Allies retreated before the armies were fully engaged), Ferdinand of Brunswick's Allied army of British, Hanoverian, Hessian, Brunswick, Prussian and Schaumburg-Lippe troops was attempting to drive a wedge between the French armies of Saint-Germain and de Broglie, who were converging and attempting to unite their forces at the town of Corbach. However, Ferdinand timed it badly and his advance guard soon found itself being attacked by both French armies...

What Donald said, in spades. You do a good looking game, Mark, not just interesting scenarios. Though I thought the two T-bolts could have swung things for the Allies, but they don't seem to have made it onto the board.

In all the units you've raised you still didn't have some famous regiments? I'm surprised about Auvergne, mate, as I thought their unique violet facings would have attracted you (pity about the bland flags, though). The Crabbyneers are just another blue French horse regiment. BTW, the first link took me to the scenario setup page (with the T-bolts), mate, not the AAR, but I knew how to find it.

I have a 3 battalion brigade of Prussian garrison troops:

I like them a lot, even though they are far from being "crack" infantry. "Crap" might be closer to the mark.

My affection is probably because they look relatively sombre in appearance, in contrast to many other units.

And in response to Spanner's "famous regiments", I guess I'm not the only one who has, for example, 4 battalion brigades all with different facing colours so I can quickly identify the component parts?

Yeah, the Carabiniers are a bloody boring regiment to look at, but they will be easy to paint...

Auvergne are firmly on my 'to do' list and I've got the flags ready to go, but there are currently no Froggy infantry in the Lead-Dungeon (something I aim to resolve after Christmas).

Oh yes, I do like a Garrison Regiment. I've got the one with black facings, just to make them even more sombre (5th Regt?).
