I'm sure we had a good reason for that weekend, probably related to lots of people being able to have the Monday off work. As things stand it works well for me but it wouldn't be impossible to tweak things, I could come to Ayton on my own and have our break with the family as normal.

I can't do a weekend falling on the school holiday though.

I found the traffic really bad this year - the worst of any year I've attended.

Hmm.... Changes may complicate things for me. The Bank Holiday weekend works well...

The bank holiday has always been perfect for me, I'd be reluctant to change it.

Bank Holiday is perfect for me and the only weekend in the year I know I'll be free. But I do feel your traffic pain, why not do Thurs-Tues and avoid it?

That would work fine for me..........I'd just have to make sure Peeler couldn't find me on the Thursday and Monday nights.

As Buff says, the A64 roadworks were a nightmare. Eightly minutes to do the first thirty miles out of Ayton - I was sorely tempted to turn round and book another night at the Lodge.

Allow me to offer a little tip. Go West Young Man. A170 from Ayton to Snainton. Drop off left onto the B1258 and join the 64 just before Scampston.

Or go via Humber Bridge. In theory about 20 mins longer but you’ll miss most holiday traffic except for a bit on the hull ring road
