Black

Really struggling with my yellow Hussars.
The black braiding etc just never seems to look right against the bright yellow, especially as I’m someone that black lines detail.
Any tips?
I thought about going for a real dark dark dark blue highlight on some of the black belts, braids etc but worry against the yellow it will look like a horrendous 80s away kit.

I use Vallejo German grey to highlight and for something like your problem would probably do more highlight than actual black

I now tend to paint black by painting in a medium grey and then using black washes (usually only one or two) to get to the level of intensity I want.

I use the German grey for everything black, some of it gets a black wash.

Another vote for German Grey. I use that for cloth and for hair/fur I dry brush with Vallejo tyre black

I think I'd go for a really dark brown against a yellow backdrop.

That could look good. May I suggest VJ's German Black Brown for acrylics?

And will start a new unit.

I can paint black
And I can paint yellow.
But I can’t combine them! It looks awful!
