Pretty much what the Baron said. I've got a set ordered but I suspect that 1/300 is just too big for coastal forces battles. It will be interesting to see what models they do release though. There's plenty of commando raids etc that could work on a 1:1 figure ratio in 1/300 scale. St Nazaire anyone?

Given that virtually all of the MTB-level fighting took place at night, and hence at fairly close range, compressing the fighting into a 4' x 3' area is acceptable for 2-3 vessels per side, but a St Nazaire raid would need a BIG table (well, a very, very long one, at least). Years ago, someone brought out a solo board game of the St Nazaire raid; I think I still have it somewhere in the loft......

Whooooa I totally forgot about those books! I sucked them up in my teens, absolutely smashing!
Now I’m going to end up trawling amazon again for a reread :purps:

I was initially quite excited but I then tend to have a Word with myself. Warlord are terribly good at marketing but it inevitably always end up a bit expensive and pants doesn’t it? :?

Slightly off theme but still arm deep in seaman...
this is coming out to.
Probably just worth utilising the ships.

Don Featherstone did it in 20mm on an 8' x 5' board!. You'd do the run in as a map exercise (basically shore batteries Vs MLs anyway) & switch to the table for the actual assault landing.

And a LAW trip would have to be taken to see the reality. If I get stinking filthy rich, we're on for this! We'll get the melon headed cat to advise on multiple photos and then I would hire a 3d studio to print the terrain.

I've been playing Coastal Warfare since the Navwar rules of 1975. Over the years I have concluded that 1:600 is about the best scale. I have, however, aquired the 1:300 free Vosper sprue. Expect to see these models in my Bush Horizon rules river/lake expansion(TM) coming soon.

Well the Zeebrugge raid was done in 28mm this year:

We were next door to them and it was rather magnificent. With just a little more effort St. Nazaire should be feasible 8-)

I like the notion of Narrow Seas as it might present an interesting mix of smaller ships and aircraft as well. I do however think they should have gone for 1:600 or 1:700.

Coastal forces games are brilliant fun... but our club’s already heavily invested in 1/600.
(Which is pretty much perfect for this kind of game, if you ask me.)
I certainly wouldn’t think it any improvement to play with ships twice the size on tables half the size.
