For really useless motivations in a sci fi setting you can't beat BattleTech. Raiding a planet for water! So, after a short run of failed raids you have to abandon your arid planet, next time pick one with water of its own.

Right, a civilisation that can cross inter stellar space and get water out of a gravity well can't just find ice asteroids and redirect them to its atmosphere?

It's like expecting the aborigines of the andes to have fleet battles with the picts.

Isn’t it this: https://www.manapress.com.au/tribal/

(Which I assumed was based on Grizzly’s average Friday night.)

Tribal is quite an interesting game in that it doesn't use dice or a tape measure just playing cards.

In terms of motivation for interstellar war I suppose we've ignored the fact that one of the protagonists might just be delicious to the aggressor!

Or - as in the John Mills Quatermass - they may be a nice ingredient for a range of cosmetics
