A new one for me, a 90mm ATG in a Loyd carrier...
What's on your workbench?
Re: What's on your workbench?
The Tetrarch had never been designed to be an airborne tank, while the Locust was designed from the ground-up to be an airborne tank. The Tetrarch was therefore only a stop-gap as an airborne tank until the Locust entered service.
From a techincal point of view, the Locust was about 5% lighter and had slightly better armour protection, but generally wasn't much of an upgrade. The whole concept of airborne light tanks was binned soon after their debut.

It is hard to see what they were there for. A jeep plus 6 pdr gives better anti tank facility; a 4.2 inch mortar in a jeep makes better light artillery, it is hard to imagine little tanks with 2pdrs making enormous breakthroughs whilst para tank riders hold the ground they take.

I like ET's bren carrier. That would slow down an arrogant panzer or two.

I’ve seen a Belgian universal carrier with an Italian 90mm in it.
The recoil must have been horrific.
Edited to add - that very one! It’s in Brussels military museum. (I misremembered it as a Universal)

But on the plus side, you can shoot and retreat without needing anyone spare to drive.Norman D. Landings wrote: ↑Fri Dec 28, 2018 11:56 am I’ve seen a Belgian universal carrier with an Italian 90mm in it.

The younger men who form the second squad of the BUM’s have started work on their transport to Ayton. As is often the case with the younger generation, they soon get bored and bugger off down the pub before they could armour all parts of the truck. Next, onto weathering!

Looking great Jeremy
I’ve got lots of things on the workbench simultaneously and not enjoying any of them. In one of those mojo-less moods.
