I was thinking, should we go ahead with this idea, then rather than lay down force sizes and descend into an Ayton arms race, how about visiting a concept that was bandied about in 2011, that of "Bring and Battle". People go off and collect and paint whatever and however many troops they want, and that's what they get to fight with, yes I know it sounds a bit obvious now that I read it, but I think the caveat should be that you keep your force details to yourself. Or something like that. Personally I do not want to go down the old 18th century road again, if you get my drift.

I had always liked the idea of something similar. Everyone has a real £ limit to their force. So if you want to spend it all on Foot, or Artillery or flaming pigs then you can. It limits the forces possible without getting fascistic about points and organisations.

It would be nice for those not 18th'ing in 2020 to have something to work up to. All ideas above are very appealing to me. I'm not fixed to any period or even scale (above 1/72 of course). 17th Cen would be totally new to me, a period I know next to nothing about but I can see myself getting a lot out of it in that respect. I'd throw in Ancients and Medievals too in the same vein and I do already have growing collections there.
