DbECW development thread.

Post by tim.w »

Moved over from the Vapnartak thread as this could get quite lengthy/interesting.

I think my wargames learning curve is about to steepen.

Base sizes currently under experimentation:
Foote - 60x30mm with 4 pike/8 shotte as standard.
Horse - 60x40mm with 5 heavies or 3-4 lights.

Guns - 60x50? Not sure what fits? Depends on gun?

Tim, you’re going to struggle to get more than 3 cavalry on a 60mmx40mm base. I’d suggest 3 on a 60mmx50mm base. Based on (excuse the pun) my experiences with my SYW cavalry, this is already fairly tight.

J is talking 28mm, not sure about Tim, given that DBN is primarily 15mm and so are Tims figures :)

Ah yes, I am. Sorry, just presumed we were all on the same page for the one true scale!

In any case the actual number of figures on a base for DBx is irrelevant other to serve as an identifier.
DBN already makes provision for double depth bases so deepening the bases probably won't matter much especially given that P&S units might deploy deeper than Napoleonic ones.

Was checking before wading in. For 15mm his numbers look fine.

On the cavalry note, my reading on the ecw leads me to believe all the cavalry was essentially impact in nature, rather than pistol or caracole style. I would also only do 3 types, Dragoon, Horse, hassleriggians.

My 6mm ecw's as I slowly assemble them are going onto credit card sized bases. Gives a nice amount of figures in looks.

I used to have ECW in 15mm. It is a great scale for battles. But 28mm just looks so awesome!

Unfortunately, and Alex will hate me for this, it would be better and more commercial to expand the rules for TYW as well as ECW, the more exotic cavalry tactics would be needed.
