In all seriousness, I've just about finished my first unit and the pike with 2 wings of shot has a 320mm frontage, so won't fit in a 1 foot square.

And I'm not rebasing

Pike length? Any suggestions on height?
My friend would like a bit of advice you see
He's currently prepping some Empress Miniatures infantry and wonder how long to make the Pike
They come in a 10 cms length but my Italian wars pike were cut to 8 cms
On 28mm figures I think this is reasonable
Any recommendations for 8 or 10cms or different again? My friend would be grateful for your opinions

Between 2.5 and 3 times the figure height. And your friend needs to join here for further advice.....

If the figure is LT the pike should be 1.5x figure height. If it's Purps it should be 4X figure height.
In case it helps, the plastic Warlord ones are 8cm.

80mm is about 16 feet in scale, which is about right for most "pikey" troops; by the time of the ECW they were being cut down to 14 (70mm) or even 12 (60mm) feet, but I think 70-80 looks impressive, as Fredd suggested.

I am a touch confused by the layout of the Warlord sprues. The main sprue has 13 bodies, 8 musket men and 5 that can take pikes. But it only has 4 pikes.
There are spare options on the command sprue but the box will end up making 32 musket men, 16 pike and 10 unit command figures. I suppose that I'll just add a couple of figures to a battalion command base.
