Wow! I didn't realise that the RN used dark earth for their seafires.

IThey didn't, those Seafires are in Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey. 1943 colour film can be misleading.

Ahhhhh! The one in the background obviously is, I looked really closely at the foreground. But yes, colour reproduction is an issue. I am amazed at the brilliance of the roundels. I suppose if your job is landing on a floating flak battery you keep them bright.
