3D printing

Post by goat major »

The very nice Najewitz Modellbau range of buildings now seems to be primarily sold as 3D print files. As I don’t really want to buy a 3D printer what are the options for getting them printed ? Are there high street equivalents of print shops where you can just take a file in and get them to print it for you ? Any idea of what the economics are of this ?

Try https: www.shapeways.com they seem fairly popular amongst us scale modellers I've never used them but know someone who has and he's more difficult to please than me and he's fairly chuffed?
Sorry in advance if they don't suit what you want.
Oh dear what a pity never mind

If it's a building use strong white .... but, beware, it soaks up primer like sodding blotting paper.

I saw those at Crisis and they did look stunning. In some cases I thought the striations looke a little visible but for buildings with rougher surfaces than you’d expect on tanks or figures it was perfectly acceptable.
I get lockdown, but I get up again.

Well, I've taken the plunge and ordered the Aldi one. Officially they don't go up till Thursday but the site is taking orders now. Now I need to shop for filament and useful files. I'll bookmark the lasermodel page.

Filament looks to be about £11-12 a kilo on Ebay, Amazon's a bit more at the moment. According to the designers this Dice box of death uses about 120 grams so it would be about £1.50 for the material plus extra for power usage. That could be a major issue given the time some prints take.

I’ll be interested in your experiences as well.

A couple of thoughts just looking at that dice box:

Is it feasible to increase the size eg x2; and,
Is it feasible to take apart the programme and print just one side of that as a stand-alone piece? I’m thinking of Ossaries, but then who isn’t?
