80 Years War
Re: 80 Years War
Interesting! Heard good things about Donnybrook. I'd probably go for a larger scale wargame along the lines of DbR, which I've played many moons ago. Its all getting very interesting. Figure wise I haven't seen anything to better Essex 15mm in range and quality so far.
Re: 80 Years War
So, Picked up a copy of DBR and it seems quite faffy compared to other Db systems. Realized that Neil Thomas covers the period quite well in his Wargaming an Introduction book. I used his rules for WoTR but cut down the 4 bases to a unit to just single base units, which gave DbA sized armies. Neil's armies would set me back about £100 per army if I followed his lists to the letter, even in 15mm so going to give it some more thought. The combined arms nature of the Renaissance period makes chopping down the army lists a bit more tricky. Harder to illustrate a mixed tercio with fewer figures.

Would you be interested in an Essex Miniature DBR Polish army pack?

Have a visit with Leon if you're going to Battleground

There's a lot of ladies swimwear in there too. Felt like I was in the Father Ted lengerie scene.
I'm good for Poles thanks, if anything Pike n Shot I'd be inclined towards 30YW or 80YW.
I've been looking at Pendrakens offerings a lot and it is a toss up between those and Essex 15's. We'll see, I'm broke at the minute so Santa needs to sort these for me or I need to sell some quality items at Battleground,
I'm still reading at the minute, I want to at least once in my life reseach and plan a project properly lol.

Curses! I'm stuck with this impulse buy then.
The Essex Miniatures early 17thC range is lovely. They only thing I don't like is the moulded on pikes.
Of course, 20mm trumps 10 and 15mil every time.

Speaking of another of your impulse buys Do you still have the Dutch Wars ships by Tumbling dice that I seem to remember you bought..........although it may have been the dried frog pills telling me that!

If this is your first term of custody for these you could always sell them to Andy.
