You’re not the first to suggest that EB was an infamous Master baser.

Flick of the wrist and he has it all sorted out.

I shall explain.Paul wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 12:14 amEssex Boy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 9:30 pmQuite right.World2dave wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 6:06 pm Check with EB, he's the voice of basing sanity around here.
I've gone for individually based. Foot are on 18mm squares which which fit into sabots which bring the unit frontage up to the equivalent of 20mm per figure frontage.

If you look in the encyclopedia under "Making problems by solving ones that aren't really problems", there's a copy of that post!
(Although i'm rather hoping it was a finely crafted comedy post in the first place)
My straw poll of basing intentions revealed that 20mm frontage per figure would be the norm (norm, not Norm). However, Lamming figures on a 20mm frontage look like they're in open order. Being one of those people who cares rather more for aesthetics than for convenience, I had 18mm bases and sabots cut by Warbases for my personal delectation (all hail Warbases).
The sabots have smaller borders than normal thus the spaces between blocks of infantry are very small, and create a not unpleasant effect.
I'd post a picture, but I'm painting the bases a different colour at the moment.

I'm very much obliged to you but sadly these phlumps aren't going to cut the mustard.
Thanks very much anyway.

Re: The Pointy Stick thread
so Tim - just to summarise:
IF player = sane THEN bases = 20mm squares
Re: The Pointy Stick thread
Formations are quite important in WAB so, whilst in games like 'Impetus' the fixed unit sized multibase is fine, in WAB it causes problems.
With your system you'll need a sabot for every conceivable unit size and formation to retain the aesthetic.
You can't remove figures from the sabots and make the differenct formations as your 18mm squares would make too small a frontage and mean you'll get an advantage in combat which will annoy everyone else. Spacing them out to 20mm frontage will destroy your aesthetic so you might as well use 20mm bases as do that.
Lipped movement trays and even bigger scenic movement trays aren't an issue in WAB because there are minimum distances you have to stay away from other units so starting off with a 20mm square isn't an issue there, because there's space for the 'lip'.
What this all means is that during play you'll have to either compromise your aesthetic choices and negate your hard basing work or compromise your tactical choices. Either way it's going to make combat confusing for everyone involved and don't get me started on how it might effect working out arcs!
(...and no...I have no idea why this annoys me so much )

Paul have you made the schoolboy error of engaging Iain in an argument about basing ?

Mine are 20mm rounds! Actually a fraction bigger as they are on pennies.
